Silver lamp gives light, comfort

this lamp lights up the room and lets you see where you are going, and help find things that are hidden by the darkness.

Movable Type (http://www.sixapart.com/movabletype/) is a web-based personal publishing system. It is designed to ease maintenance of regularly-updated news or journal sites, like weblogs.

It contains features common to many other such systems (hosted locally on your server, template-driven, highly-configurable, permalinks, etc.); in addition, it also includes support for the following features:

Chairs are fun, and practical

Can you tell me where I can get a lounge chair like from a picture from the furnished version of the newest Richard Meier tower in Lower Manhattan? I saw it in this article in HandH last week, Room to Improve by Steven Treffinger).

Thanks, MJ

Dear MJ, We have one word for you, TROY.

The lounger is called the Frog Chaise and it's under lounge seating.

Even blokes like Richard Meier don't like to work too hard. Troy has an unparalleled high end modern collection and it looks like he simply had them furnish everything in the pics. MGR

Maidens in Brooklyn: Emerging Design & Handmade Accessories

storeview.jpgWe just got word that there is a new shop in town, called Maiden Brooklyn, and it features the scrappy, Brooklynesque design sensibility and sparseness the borough thrives upon.

page4(walnutT).jpgOpened by Radek Szczesny a few weeks ago, it is dedicated to "handmade fashion and design from emerging, mostly New York artists."

There are a few workshops in back where some of the items are made and the whiff of "collective" is in the air.

missteenbuffalo_pillows.jpgMaiden Brooklyn has an odd assortment of furniture and accessories. We liked the coffee table "turntable" by Radek himself and LOL when we read that Miss Teen Buffalo's pillows are crafted out of her ex-boyfriend's shirts and sweaters. We could use more reviews on this one, so if you visit email directly. MGR

Flowerbox Special: Harlem's Blooming

05.8.9 harlem map.gifThis just in. We just got a text message nominating 104 West 121st Street for a Flowerbox Award. (We know our awards are a little biased toward downtown, so we love getting nominations from other neighborhoods!)

Problem is, the anonymous tipper didn't have their camera - so we're left without an image.

Does you live in Harlem? We need photos of the green scene at 104 West 121st by Friday morning. In gratitude, we'll send you an Apartment Therapy hat.

Send images (and descriptions) to Flowerbox Award Headquarters skgr

Design Public Launches Baby Blogapalooza 2005

2005_8_9_baby-blog.jpgOver at Design Public, Drew and Sina just don't stop with new, hairbrained schemes that far outstrip the otherwise ho-hum task of selling furniture. They are now up to new tricks with a monthlong feature: Baby Blogapalooza 2005.

Finslippy:
Babies are nice and all, but they don’t give a crap about design, and their taste is horrifying.

What the heck is this? It's their company blog, but for this month they have invited 14 well known designers and baby bloggers to contribute posts and whip up a frenzy. You'll see Sophie Demenge of Oeuf, Kyra Hartnett of Twenty2 and Greg Allen of Daddytypes.

The Ultimate Summer Hideaway Contest!

2005_8_9_running-away.jpgWe want you and we know you all will be running away at least once this month....

We want to see design ideas, interiors and exteriors from summer hideaways, so we're having a contest to get you snapping pics of your favorite room, porch, house, or reading chair.

We're looking for the Ultimate Summer Hideaway that will make us all wish we were there right now when we see it.

What we want is inspiration and ideas that typify design in these warm summer months, and we're not looking for it to be super fancy or super big, just ultimately comforable and beautiful in that lazy, summery way. MGR

Who is eligible:

  • Anyone who has a summer retreat that they love
  • They could either own it, rent it or be a guest

Good Questions: Where Can I Find This Lounge Chair?

(Note: Include a pic of your problem and your question gets posted first.)

2005_8_9_lounge-chair.jpgHi Apartment Therapist,

Can you tell me where I can get a lounge chair like from a picture from the furnished version of the newest Richard Meier tower in Lower Manhattan? I saw it in this article in H&H last week, Room to Improve by Steven Treffinger).

Thanks, MJ

Restoration Hardware Sheets and Towels

2005_8_9_restoration-hotel-.jpgWe have a friend who fills her home with sheets and bath towels from Restoration Hardware.

Whenever we stay over, we start to understand why.

While the 250 thread count on the Hotel sheets is a lot lower than we like (we always shoot for at least 300), they are the softest and most crisp cotton we have ever slept on. They wear like a really good shirt, every wash making them that much yummier.

Traemand: the IKEA Cabinet Installation Experts

2005_8_9_ikea-kitchen.jpg(We can't remember out who sent this in, but it just HAS to be blogged. Thanks, whoever you are!)

Installing new kitchen or bathroom cabinets? Using IKEA, but don't want to put up with all the headache? Traemand MIGHT be able to make all of this easier. We have no recommendation as of yet, but they offer a remarkable service that promises to make it EASY.

Traemand can do two things:

  • Measurement & Design: they will help you plan your kitchen with IKEA cabinets and get everything ordered
  • Installation: they will install the kitchen for you using "specialized European techniques" developed after installing thousands of IKEA kitchens.
